The medieval wall paintings in the Breage church, Cornwall, were discovered during
the Victorian restoration. Dating from the 15th century, when
church interiors were richly decorated and painted with allegorical
scenes, it is almost miraculous that the paintings survived the
destruction and iconoclasm following the reformation and the Prayer
Book Rebellion; an uprising which saw the death of almost 10% of the
Duchy's population.
Today, the paintings providing us with a unique insight into the
lives and beliefs of our forbears.
